History

Don Giovanni Records was originally founded by Joseph Steinhardt and Zach Gajewski while they were living in Boston in 2004. The label is best known for releasing records from The Ergs!, Screaming Females, Laura Stevenson and the Cans, The Measure (SA), For Science, and Shellshag.[1]

Don Giovanni's primary focus has been on bands local to the New York/New Jersey underground scene with a heavy focus on New Brunswick, NJ's basement scene.

Steinhardt and Gajewski started the label while playing in bands themselves and attending college at Boston University where the two met. After graduation they moved to New Brunswick, NJ, where Steinhardt was originally from, in order to make the label a full-time operation. The label started receiving attention in 2006 upon releasing The Ergs! debut LP and follow-up EP[2]
